Global Rescue Deploys Security Teams to Egypt
Hello All
It has been awhile since my last blog entry. Much has happened both good and bad in the intervening time.
One of the most significant things has been the Egyptian political upheaval.
The Egyptian protests and riots have caused much angst among traveling US citizens. About a year ago, we at EMEX added to our portfolio of coverage, evacuation insurance through GLOBAL RESCUE. I personally have bought this type of coverage on myself and fellow travelers when traveling to areas outside of my home state. Initially I bought travel medical coverage that included evacuation coverage in the package. I later found out after reading all the fine print that evacuations that needed to be made were to the “nearest qualified medical facility after an in hospital admission was made”. This means that if you were in a hospital in a remote area of Zimbabwe you would probably be transferred to Johannesburg SA. You have no control where you are sent. It is up to the medical director of the insurance carrier. Personally, I was not pleased with that scenario. I began a search for a carrier that would allow me to determine where I wanted to go and found Medjet. Medjet is a fine company that will transport you to a hospital of “your choice” if you required hospitalization when you are traveling more than 125 miles from home. Medjet provides their service for the admitting hospital to your choice of hospital. So, if you are in Moscow and get hurt or sick, once you are stabilized, you choose to be sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, they will transport you there.
The hole in this coverage is that you need to get to the nearest hospital first. This can create a problem. Let us assume that you like adventure and you are in Panama and want to go on a river rafting expedition or deep-sea fishing or possibly zip lining. If you get hurt or have a heart attack, with the Medjet coverage you need to first get to the nearest hospital. Maybe there is an ambulance to take you and maybe there isn’t. Maybe there is an air ambulance service and maybe there isn’t.
This is where “Global Rescue” separates itself from the competition. Global Rescue came on the scene a few years ago as the only company that will do medical evacuations from the “FIELD”. This means that you do not have to be hospitalized first before they will do an evacuation. Someone only needs to call the Global Rescue’s number on your ID card and Global Rescue will dispatch the needed transport and medical personnel to the sight of the incident. If your on a river and have an accident they will send personnel and transportation to that location regardless of how remote it is. They will stabilize you and transport you to the hospital of your choice regardless if it is 200 miles away or 10,000 miles away.
Global rescue also gives you the option of purchasing additional political unrest evacuation coverage. Personally, I had not seen a need to pay extra for this coverage until I saw what has happened in Egypt. I received and email from Global Rescue for which I have attached a link. Last week they sent a team of ex navy seals and special warfare personnel to evacuate their customers. https://www.globalrescue.com/about.cfm?view=news&article=57
All I can say is WOW. I see all the poor people on the TV that can’t get out and are scared to death and say thank God for the foresight of those who had the information about Global Rescue and signed up for coverage. I am personally in the process of adding that coverage to my subscription with Global Rescue.
If you want more information or wish to talk about the coverage give me a call or use the link to our website here. http://www.emexbenefits.com/13.html
